Things are getting serious around here.
Why? We’ve officially booked our reception venue!
And every time I think about our Shirley Acres, a few bars from the theme song of one of America’s best loved sitcoms plays through my head. Come on. You know the one!
Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin’ is the life for me.
Land spreadin’ out so far and wide
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.
Rewinding for a moment… we initially talked about getting married in the hill country, somewhere outside of Austin. The option to spill outside at our reception was important to us, and we really wanted to have nature play a role in our special day. Now, here was the hitch in our get-a-long.
The more we thought about our giant families (many of them from the east coast) and the logistics of having a wedding away from home, the more appealing a hometown Houston wedding became.
We only looked at two places in Houston because our visit to Shirley Acres just felt… Right. We made our deposit without looking back, and here we are. Given that our criteria in choosing a venue was fresh air and wide open spaces, Shirley Acres is a very apt name for our reception space.
We visited again this weekend with our parents and my good feelings were confirmed.
Somewhere, Oliver Wendall Douglas is applauding our decision…
Our acres, sans piggy.
